Finally We Get on a Boat

By the time we left the Tamarind Club it felt like we had already been away from Chicago for much longer than three days. The plan had been to spend time provisioning for enough food to last at least the first week. That was supposed to be the task for Saturday. But, with no way to get stuff on the boat early and an unexpected three-day lead time for Riteway to deliver, we were left to shopping on Sunday. Fortunately Riteway is open on Sunday. We said Bon Voyage to the rental car, checked in at the boat, waited an hour for a taxi to the grocery store, shopped for an hour, taxied back to the boat and started stowing a weeks worth of food, paper goods and alcohol away.

The Boat – Kazejin (Demonic wind diety)

We slept on-board Sunday night on a slip at Conch Charters and woke up Monday with lots to do. Conch is a small, family-owned charter company serving the BVIs. A huge contrast to the Moorings and Sunsail. (We did find respite at The Moorings on the Sunday before getting on Kazejin. A huge marina full of giant cats. They actually have a screening room for orientation, people scurrying about and people boarding and unboarding with huge bags. No pics of that circus. While we were grateful for the open restaurant, we were glad that we had ventured off the tourist-only path.)

Conch feels much more “at home,” more similar to 3rd Coast Crusing — small, knowledgable and scrappy.
Kazejin is a 34 foot Benetau, a doppelgänger for Blue Dragon minus the furling main, plus a much appreciated Bimini. So glad we spent as much time as we did on Blue Dragon – thank you Stevan!
